World Courier to Expand Storage Capacity and Cold Chain Capabilities With Three New Transport Stations in the United States
CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – World Courier, a global specialty logistics provider and a part of Cencora (formerly AmerisourceBergen), will open transport stations in three new markets in the United States, expanding its presence and capacity to deliver specialized logistics support as the specialty pharmaceutical market continues to grow.
The transport stations — which will be located in Denver, Indianapolis and San Diego — will expand World Courier’s capacity to store, handle and transport complex specialty pharmaceutical products, including those that require cryogenic storage. The facility in Indianapolis will be equipped with liquid nitrogen (LN2) tanks and charging capabilities, bolstering World Courier’s global network of charging centers and stations.
“As more complex and sensitive pharmaceutical products enter clinical development, the demand for highly specialized logistics continues to increase,” said Matt Virgilio, Regional Vice President of North America for World Courier. “By expanding our network and capabilities, we are well-positioned to support our partners’ evolving needs and deliver the solutions required to protect products throughout transport — whether it’s a commercially approved cell and gene therapy product or a vaccine in clinical development.”
In addition to the new facilities, which extends World Courier’s network of facilities in North America to 17 sites, World Courier recently launched a Container Freight Station at its New Hyde Park facility in New York. The new solution, coupled with the approval from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, enables World Courier to store shipments in its facility — instead of having them remain with the airline — while awaiting customs clearance. With the increased control over storage, World Courier can deliver enhanced temperature control management, including real-time monitoring of temperature and humidity, and expedite the shipping process, enabling patients to receive therapies faster.
The new facilities in the United States and phased rollout of Container Freight Stations are the latest in an ongoing series of investments World Courier has undertaken to enhance and expand its capabilities globally.
World Courier earlier this year completed the implementation of a real-time location monitoring solution on all of its multi-use packages, enabling increased visibility into the precise location of shipments in transit globally. In addition to the facility investments in the United States, World Courier will expand its presence in Denmark and Germany and increase its cold chain and cryogenic storage capabilities globally.
“As our partners develop and bring to market innovative new products, such as cell and gene therapies, they trust us to deliver the solutions needed to ensure their therapies can reach the patients who need them — no matter where they are,” said Nick Porter, President of World Courier. “These continued investments enable us to evolve alongside our partners and deliver the specialty logistics solutions needed to support the unique requirements of the products being developed today.”
