Exeltis USA, Inc. Launches Blues Away®, a First-of-its-Kind Postpartum Mood Support Dietary Supplement* for New Mothers Experiencing Postpartum Blues
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – Exeltis USA, Inc., a division of the global pharmaceutical group Insud Pharma, today announced the launch of Blues Away®, a unique liquid dietary supplement clinically shown to provide postpartum mood support for mothers during the days following childbirth.* It is estimated up to 80% of women in the US experience postpartum blues, or “baby blues,” due to a biological hormonal imbalance.1 Blues Away® helps address the changes in the brain associated with the hormonal shifts that accompany childbirth with a unique blend of mood-boosting ingredients that replenish essential mood-regulating chemicals in the brain. Blues Away® is a single, 3-day shake regimen available without a prescription and will initially be sold on Amazon.
“Becoming a mother can be joyous, but it can also leave women physically and emotionally overwhelmed often resulting in postpartum blues”
“Becoming a mother can be joyous, but it can also leave women physically and emotionally overwhelmed often resulting in postpartum blues,” said Eduardo Fernández, SVP Business Operations and Business Development, Exeltis USA. “Blues Away® was created with carefully selected and studied ingredients to bolster nutrient levels and support women’s overall mood and emotional well-being during the postpartum phase.* We are proud to add Blues Away® to our portfolio of prescription and non-prescription women’s health products and support women who are experiencing a roller coaster of hormonal changes and other symptoms of the baby blues.”
Blues Away® was studied in a placebo-controlled trial in more than 100 postpartum women over a two-year period. The study, Dietary Supplement for Mood Symptoms in Early Postpartum: A Double-Blind Randomized Placebo Controlled Trial, was published this week in The Lancet discovery science journal eClinicalMedicine. Findings show the key ingredients in Blues Away® had a statistically significant reduction on the severity of postpartum blues in the active group as compared to the placebo group as measured by the Stein Maternity Blues Scale scores at day 5 postpartum. There were no serious adverse events reported in the clinical trials and the data also reinforce the suitability of Blues Away® use among mothers who are breastfeeding.2
In clinical trials, the product inventor, Jeffrey. H. Meyer, MD, Ph.D., Senior Scientist and Canada Research Chair at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, Canada, discovered that the unique combination of wild blueberry extract, L-tryptophan and L-tyrosine contained in Blues Away® can play an instrumental role in supporting postpartum mood by decreasing the severity of postpartum blues. Previous research revealed that levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone plummet abruptly postpartum and can lead to postpartum blues, which Blues Away® may help address.
Postpartum blues, also known as “baby blues,” refers to a temporary and common emotional state that many mothers experience within the first few weeks after giving birth. It typically appears abruptly – around the third or fourth day following birth. New mothers commonly experience mood swings, sadness, tearfulness, irritability, and feelings of anxiety. These feelings go beyond the expected effects of sleep deprivation, physical discomfort, and the overwhelming responsibilities of caring for a newborn, and are related to downstream effects from a hormonal imbalance. If these feelings linger after two weeks, it could be a sign of postpartum depression, a more severe condition that requires medical help.
About Blues Away®
Blues Away® is not intended for postpartum depression, a more severe, longer-lasting version of baby blues that requires medical help. Blues Away® is a four-dose, three-day mood support shake regimen which has been shown to be effective in supporting postpartum mood.* It integrates key scientifically backed ingredients, including wild blueberry extract, L-tryptophan and L-tyrosine, that when taken after delivery, may lay a foundation for a more stable mood.* It is meant to be taken beginning in the evening of day three after giving birth and at least two hours after a meal as directed. Available without a prescription, Blues Away® is gluten-free and lactose-free. The most commonly reported side effects in clinical trials included: drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, sweating, heartburn, and restlessness.
