Wolters Kluwer Set to Add AI Capabilities to Its Nursing Education Solutions
WALTHAM, Mass. – Wolters Kluwer Health announced today plans to expand the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in its nursing education products and solutions. Having already started with Lippincott® CoursePoint+, nursing education’s most trusted curriculum solution designed to successfully transition the next generation of learners, the upcoming solutions will help reduce faculty workload and offer students AI-personalized remediation tools with rich content, based specifically on their performance data.
“Supporting efforts to target areas where a student needs more work and to give them the tools to improve can positively shape their learning experience, while making them more prepared to enter the workforce.”P
“The use of AI in nursing education is poised to usher in a new era of learning and proficiency. Wolters Kluwer has been leading the way in the early use cases of artificial intelligence in nursing education, starting with Lippincott® CoursePoint+ which incorporates machine learning to facilitate adaptive learning,” said Julie Stegman, Vice President, Wolters Kluwer Health Learning & Practice. “We are focusing on building and integrating AI that adds value to both nurse educators and students, ensuring that it is meaningful.”
Using AI to support more practice-ready nurses
With a legacy built on collaboration with nurse faculty and those in the field, Wolters Kluwer is actively working to apply AI in responsible, meaningful ways. The company is taking a human in the loop approach to AI, creating new technologies that work in tandem with the author-created content which leading industry minds have helped curate.
At a time when nursing programs must produce more practice ready nurses, sophisticated tools to support the development of clinical judgment are more important than ever. AI technology can help ease faculty and student pain points by leveraging a nursing student’s performance data for tailored remediation and to prepare students for safer clinical practice. This allows faculty to focus their time on overall class needs, creating active, clinical-based activities that foster students’ clinical judgment.
Putting AI to work
“The nursing workforce and education landscapes are facing unique challenges to prepare new nurses for the day-to-day demands of clinical practice. The intersection of these challenges presents opportunities for AI to help in graduating more clinically confident nurses,” said Cynthia Foronda PhD, RN, CNE, CHSE, ANEF, FAAN, Assistant Dean for Innovation and Scholarship at The University of Miami. “Supporting efforts to target areas where a student needs more work and to give them the tools to improve can positively shape their learning experience, while making them more prepared to enter the workforce.”
Artificial intelligence has been part of Wolters Kluwer’s digital product development for more than a decade, contributing to a range of solutions that now generate approximately 50% of the company’s digital revenues. In fact, Wolters Kluwer Health recently announced AI Labs, a collaborative resource that brings the power of generative AI to UpToDate, its market-leading clinical decision support solution, helping medical professionals make more informed decisions.
