General Micro System Wins Four ‘Best In Show’ Awards at AUSA 2025

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – General Micro Systems, the technology-independent supplier of computing engines in boxes, boards and servers, won four 4-star Best in Show Awards from Military Embedded Systems at the Association for the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting & Exposition in Washington, D.C. last week. The awards, which recognize the most innovative and mission-advancing products on display at AUSA, honored the new X7 RAPTOR™, an exceptionally low cost, lightweight, open standards-based rugged mission computer for high-volume applications such as “swarm” drones, and three systems from GMS’ new XDomain™ family of Cross Domain Systems (CDS).

Setting new standards for security, performance and affordability in defense computing

The X7 RAPTOR Mission Computer, a 4-star winner in the Rugged Computing category, provides powerful, open-architecture computing in a compact, cost-effective package built for the toughest environments. Backed by 26 patents-pending and intended for sale for under $10,000 in capable rugged configurations, the rugged X7 RAPTOR is intended for value-priced, high-volume “swarm” UAVs; wearable computing; portable and mobile applications. Based on GMS’ X9 distributed computing architecture (DCA), the X7 RAPTOR has an optimized feature set that provides unprecedented modularity and scalability to meet stringent size, weight and power (SWaP) requirements.

Honored with three 4-star awards in the Security category, GMS’ XDomain family is designed to safely transfer data between networks of different classification levels, which is critical for modern battlefield operations and combined joint domain command and control (CJADC2) environments. The winning cross domain systems include:

• X7 RAPTOR Nano-Stack – 4-star winner

The smallest and lightest weight member of GMS’s XDomain family is the X7 RAPTOR Nano-Stack CDS. Based upon the low-cost GMS X7 RAPTOR mission computer (mentioned above), the svelte X7 RAPTOR Nano-Stack CDS is designed for “bolt-on” installation with its under five (5) pound weight and 4” x 4” x 6” (W x H x L) footprint. Two X7 RAPTOR mission computers provide dual-CPU performance based on Intel^® Core i7 8-core processors and up to 128 GB of DDR4 memory. A General Dynamics TACLANE encryptor separates the two isolated domains (Red and Black) while 1 GigE network ports bring data into/out of the Nano-Stack. Internal FIPS-140-2 or CSfC SSDs complement the dual 40 Gbps Thunderbolt™ 4 ports on each domain. These cross domain systems can function as two mission or payload processors and are priced for use in cost sensitive higher-volume applications such as swarm drones, autonomous sensors, portable/mobile networks, or to secure add-on systems in legacy platforms as part of battlefield connectivity.

• X9 SPIDER TacKit Mini-Stack – 4-star winner

Similar in function to the Nano-Stack, the TacKit Mini-Stack uses the higher performing dual X9 Spider mission computer, one per domain. The Mini-Stack’s size is slightly larger at 5” x 6” x 6.5” (W x H x L) and under 9 pounds, but it adds substantially more performance into the mix. There are still 1 GigE input/output ports to these CDSs and the same TACLANE encryptor, but each mission computer now has four (4) Thunderbolt 4 ports and can be scaled up with myriad system I/O such as MIL-STD-1553, quad 100 GbE fiber network ports, dual SSDs, and an NVIDIA^® A4500 GPGAPU for on-platform and edge artificial intelligence (AI) processing. These CDSs are designed for airborne, medium-sized UAVs, mobile applications and vehicles.

• VENOM VIPER NanoATR – 4-star winner

Based upon the GMS VENOM line of 3U OpenVPX, SOSA-aligned MOSA-inspired single board computers, switch cards and I/O, the VIPER NanoATR is a standard-size ½ ATR (short) conduction-cooled chassis with GMS-unique per-slot cooling. A patent-pending radiator assembly provides efficient per-slot conduction cooling that allows the 4-slot 3U chassis to dissipate up to 800 W. Dual VENOM single-board computers (SBC)—one for the Red domain and one for the Black domain)—serve as mission processors on isolated and independent (non-interconnected) backplanes inside the chassis. One spare slot per isolated domain allows adding GPGPU or other system-specific I/O 3U cards.
