Theresa leads On Target Marketing & Communications, a specialized marketing consulting practice serving architecture, engineering, construction, accounting, and legal firms nationwide with comprehensive marketing, communications, and business development services. As Principal Consultant and Founding Owner since 2002, she delivers fractional Chief Marketing Officer services, strategic planning facilitation, marketing and business development training, seller-doer coaching, digital marketing management, proposal and pursuit strategies, and operational efficiency consulting that help professional service firms positively impact revenue, client service, and stakeholder experience.
Her expertise spans marketing strategy, corporate communications, creative strategy, business development, digital marketing, CRM implementation, and association management serving architecture, engineering, construction, legal, and accounting firms across North America. Theresa brings specialized knowledge from over 30 years of comprehensive experience including serving as CEO and Executive Director of the Connecticut Building Congress (2010-2021), where she led a statewide nonprofit construction industry association with 2,000 members, managing multigenerational staff, budget operations, environmental and social governance initiatives, brand strategy, and volunteer board collaboration.
Her multidisciplinary background encompasses marketing analytics, Adobe Creative Suite proficiency, AI-assisted marketing tools, public relations, and award-winning communications that have earned national and regional recognition. With an MBA in Management and BS in Marketing, Theresa combines strategic business acumen with creative communications expertise that elevates professional services marketing effectiveness.
Theresa demonstrates extraordinary professional leadership through her CPSM certification, FSMPS Fellow designation, and pioneering role as one of twelve national Subject Matter Experts selected to create the Markendium, SMPS’ revolutionary AEC Marketing Body of Knowledge (2021). Her work defining the six Domains of Practice that form the foundation of professional services marketing education has shaped training and certification standards for thousands of AEC marketers nationwide and will influence the profession for decades to come. She returned as a Subject Matter Expert for the 2022 Markendium refresh and contributed to the Blueprints initiative: Structuring the Marketing Department of the Future.
Her SMPS leadership journey spans multiple chapters and roles, including SMPS Connecticut Chapter President, SMPS Nevada Sponsorship Director (current), SMPS Fellows Committee member, and SMPS Mentor Pathways Program mentor. Through her Connecticut chapter presidency, Theresa developed leaders, cultivated organizational culture, and established operational guidelines ensuring long-term chapter sustainability while advancing SMPS’ vision of “Business transformed through marketing leadership.”
As a nationally recognized marketing communications expert, Theresa has earned numerous SMPS National and ZweigWhite Marketing Communications Awards across multiple years, including the only known “sweep” of a national category. Her award-winning work includes thought leadership articles, communications campaigns, public relations initiatives, and creative marketing materials that set industry standards for excellence. Her international recognition includes receiving the prestigious EJ Hooper Medal for best presentation paper among 143 submissions to the Institute of Public Works Australia Conference in Melbourne, Australia.
Beyond SMPS, Theresa demonstrated exceptional association management leadership as CEO and Executive Director of the Connecticut Building Congress (2010-2021). During her 10+ year tenure, she transformed a regional construction industry association representing 2,000 members, managing multigenerational staff, overseeing environmental and social governance initiatives, guiding brand strategy and messaging, and recruiting and collaborating with volunteers and board members. Her Connecticut Building Congress leadership included instrumental involvement in the Project Team Awards Committee efforts spanning seven years and serving as judge for ENR New England’s inaugural Top 20 Under 40 competition.
Her published works include feature profile articles for industry publications, including a cover story on Walter P Moore’s new CEO titled “Leadership is the Ultimate Team Sport” and “The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far from the Tree: Apple Campus 2 Cupertino, CA.” Her professional contributions emphasize communicating complex information with clarity to diverse audiences, a skill honed through decades of award-winning marketing communications practice.
Her educational foundation includes an MBA in Management from the University of Hartford and BS in Marketing from Central Connecticut State University, combining advanced business strategy with marketing fundamentals.
