Rob leads comprehensive marketing strategy and business development for MCG Explore Design, an Alaska-owned architecture and interior design firm with over 40 years of experience designing high-quality civic, public, educational, and healthcare facilities that flourish in Alaska’s unique environment. As Marketing Director, he oversees the entire capture process from early positioning and strategic teaming through proposal production and interview presentation, supporting a practice recognized for thoughtful design and community engagement.
His expertise spans federal procurement, public sector pursuits, and transportation projects including aviation facilities at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Rob brings specialized knowledge in Alaska Native corporation contracting, federal 8(a) business development, and military facility marketing throughout Alaska’s challenging operational environments. He translates complex technical planning into clear and compelling messaging that resonates with federal agencies and public sector clients.
With over 20 years of experience in professional services marketing, he has built a distinguished career supporting architecture, engineering, and construction firms across Alaska’s unique market. His comprehensive background includes major oil and gas industry pursuits during his eight years at CH2M HILL, where he supported million-dollar master services contracts and managed the marketing transition when CH2M HILL acquired VECO in 2007, bringing valuable corporate integration and brand rollout expertise.
Rob demonstrates exceptional professional leadership through his CPSM certification achievement and dedicated service to SMPS Alaska, where he served on the board of directors for several years. His board leadership included creative program development and event coordination that strengthened professional connections throughout Alaska’s AEC community, demonstrating collaborative leadership skills that colleagues consistently recognize.
As founder of the Building Healthy Kids Toy Drive in 2016, Rob created an innovative community initiative that brings together architecture, engineering, and construction firms to support the Children’s Hospital at Providence. This annual program focuses on building toys because of their important therapeutic role in children’s recovery process. By 2018, the program had grown to include 27 participating firms and raised approximately $20,000 in toy and cash donations, demonstrating Rob’s ability to execute ideas from concept through sustained community impact.
Rob’s commitment to advancing AEC marketing excellence includes active participation in the SMPS Pacific Regional Conference planning committee, helping shape professional development programming for hundreds of marketing professionals across Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. His regional leadership connects Alaska’s unique market challenges with broader Pacific region marketing best practices.
His Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) credential demonstrates advanced proficiency in graphic design and creative software applications, complementing his persuasive writing expertise to create visually compelling proposal presentations. This combination of technical design skill and strategic marketing thinking enables him to transform complex technical information into winning proposal narratives that colleagues describe as turning “boring proposals into visually pleasing and convincing messages.”
Rob’s diverse professional background includes managing staff teams of up to 20 production and design professionals at TimeFrame, where he marketed Alaska’s premier digital printing company with over $4 million in annual sales, building strong client networks and securing long-term public and private sector contracts that demonstrate sustained business development excellence.
