Megan develops comprehensive growth strategies, content marketing initiatives, and relationship-building programs as Director of Strategy at Etica Group, a women-owned architectural and engineering firm headquartered in Indianapolis. She innovates by connecting dots and using data to draw comparisons across situations, allowing her to develop strategic plans that increase efficiencies and effectiveness while driving measurable impact across organizational functions.
Her expertise spans strategic planning, content marketing, customer relationship management (CRM), proposal generation, and marketing communications. With over 19 years in the AEC industry beginning while a student at Butler University, Megan brings comprehensive understanding of how data-driven insights inform strategic decision-making and resource allocation. Her approach combines analytical rigor with creative problem-solving, translating complex market dynamics into actionable strategies that align with organizational growth initiatives.
Previously as Associate and Marketing Manager at Schmidt Associates (2013-2021), Megan managed all in-house marketing efforts, developed strategic marketing plans to reach growth initiatives, worked with marketing and business development teams to identify differentiation opportunities, and demonstrated firm culture through authentic storytelling. Her earlier roles include Client Services and Marketing Coordinator at Butler Fairman & Seufert (2011-2013), Director of Marketing at Williams Creek Consulting ecological engineering firm (2006-2010), and Marketing Intern at WR Clouse & Associates mortgage company (2005).
Megan demonstrates exceptional professional leadership through her SMPS Fellow designation (Class of 2022), joining an elite group demonstrating at least 15 years of marketing expertise and 10+ years of active SMPS involvement. In her SMPS Marketer Magazine July/August 2022 Fellow profile, she articulated her commitment to making positive improvements and having an impact in everything she does—whether for advancement of her employer, an individual, or community organization. She strives to leave the world a little better through tangible and lasting difference.
Her SMPS Indiana chapter leadership includes service as President (2013-2014), providing strategic direction during a critical period in the chapter’s development. As community liaison, Megan oversaw chapter activities, outreach to new members, budget management, scholarship programs, community involvement initiatives, and chapter compliance—demonstrating comprehensive governance expertise. Her presidential year established foundations that continue supporting Indiana’s AEC marketing community.
Serving as judge for the 2022-2023 SMPS Marketing Communication Awards (MCAs), Megan evaluated national competition entries, providing expertise on excellence standards in professional services marketing. Her participation in this rigorous judging process contributes to defining what constitutes best-in-class marketing across the AEC industry.
Megan’s thought leadership includes authoring “7 Common Traits of Leaders,” a publication examining what distinguishes transformative leaders across history. Drawing on research from Pat Williams (Senior Vice President, NBA’s Orlando Magic), her article distills seven essential leadership traits: Vision, Communication, People Skills, Character, Competence, Boldness, and A Serving Heart. This framework provides practical guidance for AEC marketing professionals aspiring to leadership roles, emphasizing that even one missing trait creates gaps in leadership effectiveness.
Her educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Butler University, where she also studied at Flinders University in Australia, providing international business perspective. This global education combined with immediate AEC industry entry while still a student demonstrates early commitment to professional services marketing.
Megan describes herself as an “introvert disguised as an extrovert,” bringing authentic understanding to relationship building that acknowledges different communication styles and energy management needs—an increasingly recognized asset in client development and team leadership contexts.
