Kim leads comprehensive marketing and business development for Bowers + Kubota Consulting, a 100% employee-owned kama’āina (local) architectural, engineering, and construction management firm serving Hawaii and the Pacific Rim since 1980. As Director of Marketing and Business Development, she drives strategic marketing operations for an integrated multidisciplinary firm with over 200 employees operating from five offices across all major Hawaiian Islands: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Hawaii Island, and Molokai.
Her expertise spans architecture, construction management, civil engineering, landscape architecture, electrical engineering, environmental consulting, planning, and project management serving healthcare, education, government, hospitality, and community development markets throughout Hawaii and Pacific Rim regions. Kim brings specialized knowledge in marketing communications, proposal writing, business development, and strategic planning. With nearly 20 years of dedicated AEC industry experience including prior roles at HDR as Marketing Coordinator and Engineering Solutions, Inc. as Office Manager, she has progressed from business development coordinator through marketing manager to her current director-level leadership at Hawaii’s most recognized employee-owned design firm.
Her deep understanding of Hawaii’s unique built environment, kama’āina business culture, and Pacific Rim market dynamics enables effective marketing support for projects that strengthen island communities while honoring local traditions and sustainable development principles.
Kim demonstrates extraordinary professional leadership through her CPSM certification, FSMPS Fellow designation (Class of 2025), and pioneering role strengthening small and emerging SMPS chapters across the Pacific region. As one of the newest Fellows recognized in May 2025, Kim’s leadership reflects SMPS’ acknowledgment of her transformative impact championing seller-doer marketers, elevating CPSM as a signal of strategic leadership, and building sustainable chapter infrastructure serving geographically dispersed AEC communities.
Her SMPS Hawaii leadership journey spans 17+ continuous years of active membership, including serving as Chapter President (2013-2014), Chapter President-Elect (2012-2013), Chapter Secretary (2011-2012), Chapter Past President (2014-2015), and Chapter Director/Sponsorship Chair (2015-2018). Through her extended chapter leadership commitment, Kim developed programming infrastructure, cultivated professional development opportunities, and established operational frameworks ensuring chapter sustainability for Hawaii’s AEC marketing community spanning multiple islands and time zones.
As a dedicated SMPS volunteer, Kim transformed a “small-chapter start and Pacific-rim perspective into a career of impact,” according to her SMPS Fellows recognition. Her focus areas as a new Fellow include championing seller-doer marketers who balance technical expertise with business development responsibilities, strengthening small and emerging chapters facing unique geographic and resource challenges, and elevating CPSM certification as recognition of strategic marketing leadership rather than administrative support.
Beyond SMPS, Kim demonstrates exceptional professional achievement through recognition including HDR’s Pathfinder Award of Excellence for Community Service (2012) and HDR’s Pathfinder Gold Award of Excellence for Creativity (2012). These awards recognize her contributions to innovative marketing approaches and community engagement initiatives that strengthen both firm reputation and community relationships.
Kim serves Hawaii’s professional community through ongoing involvement supporting AEC industry advancement, professional development initiatives, and mentoring emerging marketing professionals. Her commitment to education includes completing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services from the University of Phoenix while working full-time, demonstrating dedication to continuous learning and professional advancement.
