Professional expertise

Jennifer drives comprehensive project development strategy for Clancy & Theys Construction Company, a privately-owned, family-run general contractor founded in 1949 by two brothers-in-law capitalizing on the post-WWII construction boom in Raleigh, North Carolina. As Director of Project Development for the Charlotte Division, she oversees strategic business development, client relationship building, and project pursuit coordination for a 75+ year-old firm recognized for over a decade as a regional leader in Building Information Modeling/Virtual Design and Construction (BIM/VDC).

Her expertise spans construction, engineering, and architecture marketing with deep specialization in business development, relationship cultivation, and strategic market positioning across multiple sectors. Jennifer brings comprehensive knowledge of commercial office, healthcare, senior living, multi-unit residential, education, religious, transportation, industrial, retail, recreation, mixed-use, and historic renovation markets serving clients throughout the Southeast including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and beyond.

With over 22 years of AEC industry experience, Jennifer has contributed to business development excellence across construction (Clancy & Theys, where she joined in February 2024), civil engineering and surveying (Timmons Group, where she served as Business Development Manager from 2021-2024 overseeing the Carolinas region), environmental consulting and testing (Intertek from 2017-2021), architectural design (LaBella Associates and ADW Architects from 2007-2017), and media/events coordination (CBS Radio from 2003-2007).

Her proven track record includes strategically building relationships and brand awareness by creatively marketing diverse service lines across multiple market sectors, both nationally and internationally. Jennifer’s extensive cross-sector experience—spanning construction, engineering, architecture, environmental consulting, and media—provides valuable multi-disciplinary marketing perspective that enhances strategic positioning for complex integrated project delivery.

Industry leadership

Jennifer demonstrates exceptional professional leadership through her CPSM certification earned in 2016 and distinguished multi-year service to SMPS Charlotte, one of the Southeast’s most active chapters. Her chapter leadership includes serving as Programs Director, President-Elect, President, and Past President—demonstrating sustained commitment to advancing AEC marketing excellence throughout the Charlotte region and beyond.

As a recognized thought leader and national presenter, Jennifer has shared her expertise through co-presenting “Making Moves: Marketing to Business Development” with Sara Downing, CPSM (Director of Business Development at Clancy & Theys), guiding AEC professionals through the career transition from marketing to business development roles. This presentation addresses critical questions for professionals considering BD career moves, providing practical frameworks for skill development and career progression.

Beyond chapter leadership, Jennifer has contributed to regional professional development through roles including SERC (Southeastern Regional Conference) Co-Chair and Chair of the SERC Advisory Board. Her service to SERC demonstrates commitment to advancing professional development opportunities across the southeastern United States, coordinating annual conferences that bring together hundreds of AEC marketing professionals for education, networking, and knowledge sharing.

Jennifer’s professional philosophy centers on building authentic relationships and finding “business in all the right places”—a creative approach she explored in a Valentine’s Day-themed presentation comparing partnership qualities in personal and professional relationships. Her presentation posed the question: “We look for almost everything in a real-life partner that we would in a business partner: valuable experiences, respect, trust, communication, attention, transparency, friendship, commitment, and more. So, why don’t we use a similar model when courting professional connections?”

As SMPS Charlotte Programs Co-Director (partnered with Amy Jones of Barton Malow), Jennifer has coordinated premier educational programming including panels on higher education, sustainable development (“Circular Charlotte: Queen City’s Path to a Sustainable Future”), site tours, and networking events. Her programming leadership has strengthened SMPS Charlotte’s reputation as a trusted resource for AEC professionals with over 50 firms represented in the chapter.

Jennifer’s commitment to professional development extends to organizing specialized panels featuring diversity and inclusion leaders, demonstrating her dedication to advancing equity conversations within the AEC industry. Her coordination of higher education panels featuring leaders from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, UNC Charlotte, and CPCC reflects her understanding of workforce development challenges and opportunities facing the construction and design industries.
