Professional expertise

Dana sets strategic direction for marketing, creative, and communications across Barton Malow Holdings, a construction enterprise with more than 3,000 team members throughout North America. As Vice President, Branding + Communications, she oversees the Barton Malow Family of Companies’ integrated brand experience, leading a full-service in-house team of marketing, branding, communication, and creative professionals.

Her expertise spans enterprise-wide construction marketing, corporate rebranding initiatives, executive communications, and internal culture transformation. Dana brings specialized knowledge in digital platform implementation, video content production, and strategic messaging for change management across large-scale construction organizations.

With over 24 years of AEC industry experience, Dana has contributed to marketing excellence throughout her career, including six years at Turner Construction Company before joining Barton Malow in 2007. Her comprehensive understanding of construction marketing enables strategic positioning for multi-billion dollar enterprises, supporting diversified project portfolios across commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and institutional sectors serving both public and private clients nationwide.

Industry leadership

Dana demonstrates exceptional professional leadership through her SMPS Fellow designation and service as the 2023-2024 President of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, representing nearly 7,000 marketing and business development professionals throughout the United States and Canada. Elevated to SMPS Fellowship status in 2013, she has served in various local, regional, and national leadership capacities, including At-Large Director (2020-2022), Board Liaison to the SMPS Foundation, and President-Elect (2022-2023) before assuming the presidency.

Her leadership culminated in Barton Malow’s award-winning centennial campaign, which earned industry recognition including the inaugural Ragan Zenith Award. The comprehensive 100th Anniversary initiative combined archival storytelling, contemporary video narratives, social media engagement, and a traveling “Legacy Tour” mobile museum—a 42-foot traveling exhibit that visited 30+ locations to celebrate the company’s history with team members, clients, and communities. This multi-layered, immersive experience set a new benchmark for legacy celebrations in the construction industry.

Dana regularly speaks as a subject matter expert on marketing, communications, social media, and employee engagement topics at industry conferences and events. She has authored publications including “Tech Tools – A Software Reference Guide for SMPS Chapters” and “Become Your Firm’s Culture Captain,” sharing practical insights with the AEC marketing community.

Beyond her SMPS leadership, Dana is a graduate of Leadership Detroit (Class XXXVII) and an active member of the Detroit Economic Club. In 2023, Crain’s Detroit Business recognized Dana’s exceptional contributions by naming her to the list of Notable Leaders in Marketing. She earned her MBA in International Marketing from Wayne State University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Communications from the same institution.
