Beth brings 25+ years of comprehensive marketing and communications expertise to her role as Division Manager, Marketing & Creative Services at McElhanney, Canada’s oldest employee-owned engineering and geomatics firm founded in 1910. Leading a talented team supporting marketing and business development across a 1,300-person multidisciplinary organization, she oversees proposal management, creative direction, brand development, and strategic marketing initiatives for one of Western Canada’s most established infrastructure consulting practices.
At McElhanney, Beth supports marketing for an integrated firm serving transportation networks, municipal infrastructure, resource industries, geomatics, environmental services, landscape architecture, and planning across 30+ locations throughout Western Canada and a specialty office in Florida. Her expertise spans transportation infrastructure marketing, municipal engineering, water and wastewater systems, land development, resource sector consulting, and geospatial services serving both public and private sector clients.
Her unique background bridges publishing and AEC marketing, combining editorial excellence with infrastructure consulting expertise. With a Master of Publishing from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and Religion from the University of British Columbia, Beth brings exceptional writing, editing, and strategic communications capabilities to complex engineering and infrastructure marketing challenges.
Beth exemplifies professional excellence through her CPSM certification earned in 2022, recognizing mastery across all six SMPS Domains of Practice including marketing research, planning, client and business development, proposals, promotional activity, and management. Her certification achievement reflects both her extensive AEC industry experience and her distinctive background in professional publishing and editorial leadership.
Her career trajectory demonstrates progressive growth from publishing to infrastructure marketing. Before joining McElhanney, Beth served as Editor and Assistant to Publisher at Arsenal Pulp Press, one of Canada’s leading independent publishers specializing in LGBTQ2S+ and BIPOC literature, literary fiction, cultural studies, and award-winning titles. This role provided deep expertise in editorial processes, content strategy, manuscript development, and publishing operations for a press with over 400 titles in print distributed throughout Canada, the US, Great Britain, Australia, and internationally.
Earlier in her career, Beth held roles as Publisher and Editor at The University of British Columbia, Co-director and Editor at Kick Communications (a freelance communications venture), and Manager of Employer Marketing and Communications at DAY Communications. This diverse background spanning academic publishing, independent editorial services, and corporate communications created a distinctive skill set that enhances her AEC marketing leadership.
Her comprehensive experience in writing, editing, digital communications, social media strategy, internal communications, public speaking, event planning, and integrated media strategies brings exceptional value to infrastructure consulting marketing. Beth’s progression through multiple roles at McElhanney—from Marketing & Proposal Writer to Marketing & Communications Manager to Division Manager—reflects sustained excellence and leadership growth within one of Canada’s most respected engineering organizations.
