AEC marketing professional
Anne-Marie brings exceptional strategic business development and marketing leadership expertise to AEC consulting, currently serving as Chief Executive Officer of A.M. Funk Consulting, where she partners with architecture, engineering, construction, and commercial real estate firms on winning new work, strategic marketing, and big-picture strategies. Her consulting practice specializes in helping firms raise awareness for the power of marketing and business development while developing actionable strategies that deliver measurable results.
Her comprehensive expertise spans new business development, strategic planning, proposal strategy, interview preparation, marketing communications, and data-driven decision-making with over 30 years of experience in the AEC industry across Oklahoma and California. Anne-Marie excels as a “powerhouse connector,” leveraging social media platforms and professional networks to build relationships that translate into business opportunities and competitive advantage.
With an AB in Political Science from UC Berkeley and completion of Leadership Norman Class 2023-2024, Anne-Marie specializes in strategic planning, oversight of marketing communications materials (web, social media, presentations, graphics, collateral), award submissions, and helping firms understand the direct connection between effective marketing and overall business success. Her mission extends beyond winning work to fundamentally raising the profile and value of marketing and business development within the AEC industry.
Anne-Marie demonstrates extraordinary professional leadership through both her CPSM certification and her prestigious FSMPS designation as a member of the 2022 Class of SMPS Fellows, representing the highest level of achievement in AEC marketing. As a Fellow of SMPS, she has been recognized for sustained excellence and exceptional contributions to advancing the professional services marketing profession through founding chapter leadership, decades of dedicated service, and transformative impact on Oklahoma’s built environment.
Her most profound leadership achievement is her role as a Founding Member of SMPS Oklahoma, helping establish the chapter from its inception and nurturing its growth into one of the most active regional chapters over the past 15+ years. This founding vision required extraordinary dedication, foresight, and commitment to building professional infrastructure where none existed—creating educational programming, networking opportunities, and professional development resources that have benefited hundreds of Oklahoma AEC marketers.
Anne-Marie’s sustained chapter excellence culminated in her induction into the SMPS Oklahoma Marketing Hall of Fame—the chapter’s most prestigious honor awarded to only two individuals per year. Hall of Fame members demonstrate “a long, rich history of success in the Oklahoma built environment and have made a significant, indelible impact on professional services marketing and SMPS Oklahoma.” This recognition honors those who show “extraordinary commitment to the goals and growth of SMPS Oklahoma and the larger Society through active participation and leadership, they promote the reputation of SMPS Oklahoma within the A/E/C industry and they show consistent involvement in chapter events and programs.”
Her chapter leadership includes receiving the SMPS Oklahoma Marketer of the Year award, recognizing her as the best among peers in the A/E/C marketing industry. She also received the SMPS Oklahoma Rock of the Chapter award, presented to “the member whose contributions have significantly impacted the chapter over the past SEVERAL years” and is “known to be a backbone of SMPS Oklahoma—always working for the greater good of the organization and the A/E/C industry.”
Anne-Marie’s regional leadership extends through her service as SMPS South Central Regional Conference (SRCR) Programs Chair for 2024 in Austin, where she helped plan and coordinate speakers and programs for one of the largest regional gatherings of AEC marketing professionals. She also contributed to planning SMPS SRC 2023 in New Orleans, demonstrating sustained commitment to regional professional development beyond her local chapter.
Her profound impact on professional development is evidenced through organizing and instructing the CPSM certification program for 9+ years, personally mentoring dozens of professionals through the rigorous certification process. Her CPSM instruction has elevated certification rates and professional standards throughout Oklahoma, creating a lasting legacy of excellence that continues through the professionals she has trained.
Anne-Marie serves as Senior Chapter Advisor for SMPS Oklahoma, providing strategic counsel and institutional memory to current chapter leadership while ensuring continuity of the chapter’s mission and values. In this role, she guides chapter boards and volunteers, shares lessons from the founding years, and helps new leaders navigate challenges while maintaining the inclusive, collaborative culture that has characterized the chapter since its establishment.
Her community leadership demonstrates comprehensive impact beyond SMPS through her role as a board member for several years with the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, where she contributes to fundraising for Chamber events and memberships to build Oklahoma City’s business community. She is also a graduate of Leadership Norman Class 2023-2024, completing intensive civic leadership training that positioned her among emerging leaders shaping Norman’s future.
